We travel together
And see tomorrow bloom
The elements converge
And all roads lead to you

Eros was perched on your shoulder
Plucking his lyre and quietly
Composing a song for you
Spoil him with words
And everything will fall into place

Urban Loneliness

I stumbled across this CBC podcast today. Urban loneliness is something I've been thinking a fair bit about over the last couple of months. It turns out that Vancouver is infamous for it. You'd think that a city populated by a couple of million people would facilitate inclusion. Apparently we fail horribly at getting to know our neighbours.

This is a good listen. Check it out.

I'm going to make a point of saying hi to people a lot more often.

Drop your troubles
On top of the sun
And watch them sink
Into the Pacific

She sat quietly with a dirty martini
And welcomed us to her empty table for six
Mindlessly flipping pages in her magazine
And eavesdropped on our chat about trips and jazz and love
While we waited for our whiskey to finish
Then, with an eyeful of hope
She gathered her coat,
Touched your shoulder
And said, "Thank you"

Gig at St James Hall

I've been invited to play a benefit show at St. James Hall in Vancouver on March 8th. The band is killer and rehearsals have been a ton of fun. The group is led by Richard Lowy, and I'll be playing bass with:

Stratocaster Pickup Height

I've always wondered about this. In the past I've simply raised the pickups until they sounded right to my ear. It turns out there's a bit of a method to it.

Space 1999

Originally aired in 1975, Space 1999 was one of my favourite TV shows when I was a kid. I have no idea what the appeal was for me. The silly story lines, the horrible method acting, the cheesy soundtrack and effects. One thing is certain: Those Eagle ships were cool AF!

What did the crew eat up there anyway? I don't think there are any scenes showing anyone ingesting anything.

I was a bit disappointed (and relieved) as 1999 came and went without the slightest hint of lunar natural disaster. Why the heck would anyone want to bury nuclear waste from earth on the moon anyway? It would cost a lot less to just aim it at the sun, wouldn't it? No Moonbase Alpha required.

I've found the entire series uploaded to YouTube, and I'm binge watching all of the episodes until they get taken down and removed.

It's overdue
Like an old library book that's been sitting quietly
In a musty, dusty attic
And all the fertilizer in the barn
Won't make it grow any faster
It is happening at its own pace
But it's overdue

I've finally pulled the trigger and deleted my personal Facebook account. Good riddance.

With that said though, I've kept my professional pages simply to protect my brand. Even though anything posted on the Vancouver Handyman rarely makes it to anyone's feed, I think FB still lends some credibility to small business. For whatever reason, people still check me out there, so that will remain for now.

Facebook really is new MySpace, eh?

Broken Pier

Lace your fingers in mine
And lead me on that uphill journey
Away from the tired ocean and the broken pier
To your sacred tower
And to your Royal Heart
